Golden sands and 5-star luxury - Living it up in Salinas!

See Salinas on your Ecuador Holiday

The Route of the Sun

Salinas sits at the head of what is known in Ecuador as the "Ruta del Sol" - the coastal road that snakes up the Pacific Coast of Ecuador following, according to local tradition, the Route of the Sun. Be that as it may, there's no denying it's a great location to enjoy a spot of sun-worship!

Although there are those who prefer the more rustic charms of Atacames and other, more northerly beaches, most people in Ecuador agree that if what you're after is out-and-out luxury then Salinas is the place to head for, with more 5-star hotels than you can shake a stick at!

And relax...

So, once you've finished enjoying all the creature comforts your hotel has to offer, what else do we have for you? Well, for a start there's the lovely beach: about 5km of a crescent bay, lined with golden sands and palm trees; then there's the water, which benefits year-round from the warm, equatorial current; and then there's all the watersports you could wish for, from windsurfing to jet-skiing - if you make it up off the sun-lounger, that is!

Perhaps best of all, if you don't mind leaving the beach then you can head out into open-water for a whale-watching trip, or even head 25km out of Salinas to the San Vicente thermal baths for a rich volcanic mud-bath, followed by a good rinse and a massage!

Then, once the evening comes around, you can head back to your hotel to either enjoy the choice of food on offer there, or just to get ready and head out to enjoy the excellent choice of restaurants and nightlife that Salinas has to offer. Things get particularly lively in the main summer season between December and March, but Salinas is popular all year-round with both Ecuadoreans and international tourists, so there's always plenty going on.
