Sea-lions and iguanas on Santa Fé Island
One of the smallest islands in the Galapagos, Santa Fé nevertheless is home to one of the archipelago's most beautiful bays. Barrington Bay, on the north-eastern side of the island, is regularly used as a calm overnight anchorage by yachts and is also the main landing-site on Santa Fé.
The bay itself is home to a great number of sea-lions and the surrounding, turquoise-green waters are perfect for snorkelling. With a bit of luck you might get to swim with some of the local sea-turtles!

From the beach, a steep walk takes you up into the highlands, where you can see the Santa Fé land iguana - found nowhere else on the planet and a good bit larger than iguanas on the other islands. They love to try and feed off the local Opuntia cacti, which in turn have evolved to grow their fleshy sections high off the ground to make it harder for the iguanas to eat them!
