Diving in the Galapagos Islands
Year after year, the Galapagos Islands are voted one of the top dive sites in the world. Both experienced and novice divers continue to flock to the clear waters around the Galapagos to dive and enjoy the incredibly species-rich confluence of the Humboldt and Equatorial currents. The 70,000km² area of the Galapagos Marine Reserve has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the best-protected of the world's top dive sites so that we can hopefully ensure divers enjoy it for generations to come!
It's harder to describe what you don't see than what you do in these waters, and with excellent visibility - often up to 30m - you shouldn't miss out on anything! Apart from the 300 varieties of fish (45 of which are endemic) and dozens of types of rays, sea-lions, turtles, penguins, iguanas, whales and several types of sharks all make their home in the waters around the Galapagos.

What's the water like?
As we've said, the visibility is excellent all year round, and the water temperature remains comfortable too - averaging between 20 and 25°C. The currents are generally rated strong to medium, however, and most of the best Galapagos dive sites are better suited to intermediate level or more experienced divers. There still remain some good sites for beginners, however, and there are some excellent places and courses for those looking to get their PADI certificate.
Away from it all on a Galapagos Live-aboard Dive cruise
